Paintings 16, 17&18

Hello everyone I hope you had a great weekend. It’s been unusually cold here in the Pacific Northwest. The upside is that it looks very Christmasy. Below are paintings 16,17&18 that I managed to get done:

#16 “Lionhead Bunny”, Oil on Birch Panel, 5″x7″img_4377This painting is of a Lionhead-breed rabbit that I have never seen before. It’s really cute, so I thought, why not? It’s as good a subject as any. Since, my goal for this 30-day challenge is to familiarize myself with oil painting. These paintings are not necessarily planned art pieces but studies and practice paintings. It turned out to be challenging enough, but I am happy with the outcome. It’s really tricky to paint the white of the fur and all it’s nuances without ending up with a solid-white blob.

#17 “Pomegranate Study”, Oil on Birch Panel, 4″x4″img_4386This piece looks really simple but getting the colour right was difficult. Nothing’s ever easy when you start to paint it, at least for me. I am very happy with the way it came out. Despite the simplicity of the composition and subject matter, the richness of the colours really make the piece. It does look like a pomegranate doesn’t it?

#18 “Cupcake”, Oil on Birch Panel, “4×6”img_4396This painting was a fun piece in as far as the subject matter and the bright cheerful colours. Needless to say, it wasn’t an easy piece. It wasn’t that difficult either, but kind of time-consuming in rendering the cupcake liner paper and the pastry itself.

I’m glad that these three pieces are a success (for me). I have learned that you really have to push through and not get discouraged about the work ahead. I’ve also learned that you can’t rush things no matter how crunched for time you are. I am especially proud of myself for getting these done amidst Christmas parties, Christmas shopping and daily life responsibilities.

I hope your week goes well and I hope you enjoy these pieces.
